GUI Cups and Shields draws
THE draws for this years GUI Cups & Shields have been made, so let’s look at who’s clashing in the West Munster area in the three opening events.
Beginning with the Jimmy Bruen Shield which gets the season off to a start on the weekend of May 11 & 12 at both Killarney (O’Mahony’s Point) and Ballybunion (Cashen).
In Killarney on Saturday May 11th its Ross versus Kanturk (8.00am), Killarney versus Beaufort (8.40), Dooks versus Kenmare (9.20) and Berehaven versus Waterville (10.00).
At Ballybunion, Castlegregory play Killorglin in a preliminary match prior to May 11th and the winners take Doneraile in the opening match at 7.50am on the Saturday followed by Newcastlewest versus Ceann Sibeal (8.30), Ballybunion versus Ballyheigue (9.10) and Tralee versus Castleisland (9.50).
The Pierce Purcell Shield takes place two weekends later (May 25th & 26th) at Newcastlewest and Ceann Sibeal but there are two preliminary matches on Saturday May 18th at Newcastlewest where Kenmare take on Castleisland at 12.30pm and Killorglin play Kanturk at 1.20pm.
The following Saturday, May 25, the winners of the Kenmare/Castleisland game play Ballybunion in the opening match at 8.30am followed by Tralee versus Doneraile (9.10am), Ballyheigue versus Newcastlewest (9.50am) and Ring of Kerry versus the winners of the Killorglin/Kanturk match from the previous Saturday.
At Ceann Sibeal, there are no preliminary matches so its straight into the action on Saturday morning where Dooks take on Castlegregory (8.30am), Ross versus Waterville (9.10am), Beaufort versus Ceann Sibeal (9.50am) and Killarney versus Berehaven (10.30am).
The Irish Mixed Foursomes is the third event on the calendar and gets underway on the weekend of June 15 & 16 at Dooks and Castleisland.
Beginning at Dooks on Saturday morning its Ceann Sibeal versus Castlegregory (8.30am), Ring of Kerry versus Waterville (9.10am), Berehaven versus Dooks (9.50am) and Kenmare versus Killarney (10.30am).
At Castleisland, it’s Tralee versus Newcastlewest (8.30am), Castleisland versus Kilorglin (9.10am), Doneraile versus Kanturk (9.50am) and Ross versus Ballybunion (10.30am).
