DEATHS

The death has taken place of Kathleen (Kitty) O’Sullivan (nee McCrohan), Killeagh. Removal was from O’Connors Funeral Home to St Gertrude’s Church, Firies and after Requiem Mass on Tuesday to Kilnanare cemetery. Sympathy is extended to her family, relatives and friends.

The death has also taken place of Dan J. Prendergas­t, Boolteens West, Castlemain­e and formerly of Bohereens, Firies. Requiem Mass took place in St Gobnait’s Church, Keel and burial in the adjoining cemetery. Sympathy is extended to his family, relatives and friends.

Jack played at full back for Kerry against Tyrone on Sunday and did very well.

BALLYHAR DYNAMOS FC

TEAMS - Our U15s had a tough day at the office going down to St Brendans Park away on a 7-1 scoreline.We were short a number of regulars and trailed 4-0 at the break but Hugh Walsh gave us a good start to the second half. Best on the day were Declan o Connor, James Horgan, Conall o Mahony & Charlie Keating.

Our u17s had a hard earned 4-1 away victory against killarney Athletic.We led 1-0 at the break when Nathan Callaghan chipped the home keeper after great work by Jason Brennan.Nathan added a second early in the second half to give us some breathing space. Tomas Scott headed our third goal with 20 minutes remaining. Killarney hit back with a fine finish but Tomas scott seled the win , with time nearly up after a low cross by John Power. Overall a good win involving all the squad present on the day with C Ring, B o Driscoll, C o sullivan, J o Leary, J Brennan , & C Henderson playing well. Our Seniors travelled away to play Ballyheigu­e FC at the KDL grounds , Tralee with both sides seeking the points for different reasons.We took the lead from Ed kerrisk after good approach work by Patrick o Connor.Ballyheigu­e hit back twice with goals from set pieces to lead 2-1 at the break.While having alot of possession in the second half our only reward was a Padraig o Connor penalty with over ten minutes remaining.Best on the day were Sean o Sullivan, Dan o Shea, john Daly, Kevin o Sullivan, Ger Fitzgerald & Diarmuid o Mahony.

FIRIES COMMUNITY GAMES

BASKETBALL: Another great weekend of Basketball with the U16 Boys and Girls representi­ng the parish with passion and pride. The U16 Girls coached by Fiona Walshe played extremely well, but unfortunat­ely missed out on the Finals. The Boys however, under their coach Linda Ring won their way to the Finals and came away with the parishes first County medals of the 2019 Community Games season. Well done indeed for your well earned bronze medals. A big thank you to the parents for all their support and to the coaches a special thanks for all their time and efforts.

SWIMMING: This weekend sees the swimming finals take place at the Tralee Sports Centre on Sunday, you must be registered to be able to compete. Under 8’s and U10’s start at 10am and U12, U14 and U16 from 12.30pm. If you are interested to see what goes on in the view to competing next year come along and support our small team of swimmers. Feel free to go for a look and cheer them on. Good Luck to you all competing, Sophie Bowler O’Riordan, Saiorse Teahan, Michael Teahan and Isaac Vickers.

7. Chess County finals are Sunday 10th March in Glenflesk. Draughts County finals are Sunday 31st March in Listowel. It would be great to even enter a couple of Mixed teams if we can get the players and coaches.

CROSS COUNTRY: All the children interested in running, Cross Country U12, U13, U14, and Marathon U16 are on 7th and 9th April and of course Athletics later on in the year for all ages, why not consider starting your training early.

Farranfore/Maine Valley Athletics Club have started back training Tuesdays (Firies GAA Sports Hall Farranfore 6pm to 6.45) and Thursday (Firies GAA Ground 6.30 to 7.30) and it’s a good chance to get fit and ready.
