KILLORGLIN HISTORY & FOLKLORE SOCIETY

Spring 2019 Programme to start. Killorglin History & Folklore Society begins its Spring 2019 programme with a showing of the award-winning film =91The Silver Branch’ in KCYMS on Friday 1st February at 8.00pm. There will be an admission fee of €3.00.

The Silver Branch is the multi-award winning philosophical film on the life of farmer/poet Patrick McCormack, descendant of generations of farmers who have lived off the wild landscape of the Burren in County Clare. Patrick and his rural community are drawn into a divisive battle with the Government, leading him and a small group of friends to the Supreme Court to decide on the fate of this iconic wilderness.

Through Patrick’s eyes, and in his words, this beautifully shot film immerses us in the exquisite texture of the natural world, bringing us a rare glimpse of a disappearing way of life with all its richness and roguery, and leading to a deep connection with the Earth and our ancestral wild spirit. The producer of the film, Katrina Costello and her husband Ken Sullivan have family associations with Killorglin and are regular Puck Fair attendees.

Councillor Cahill requested the Council and the Department to take the significant increase in traffic attending this Preschool, Killorglin Sports Complex, Killorglin Community College and FEXCO along with all the other businesses and the large number of Housing Estates in the area into consideration stating that ‘This is now a major health and safety issue, particularly in the vicinity of ‘Scamps and Scholars and a child will be killed or seriously injured if action is not taken.

The Killorglin Councillor said there was an urgent need for Traffic Calming Measures at this location.
