Kerry ETB and SciTech’s show of momentum

-

OVER 900 students, career changers and jobseekers attended the Kerry Education and Training Board’s open week which took place at the board’s training centre at Monavalley in Tralee last week.

Across the week a further 600 people attended the Apprenticeship Open Evening on Thursday.

Visitors to the centre on Thursday met with a range of Kerry-based employers who take on apprentices on a regular basis.

These included OPW; TLI Group; Enercon; Listal Ltd; O’Carroll Engineering; Southwest Engineering; DCS Group; Bathrooms 4U; Torc Precision Engineering; David Clifford Carpentry and Building Services; Kerry Mechanical Engineering; Keltic Heating; Total Plastic Solutions; Liebherr and Gallivan Murphy Hooper Dolan.

Assistant Manager of the Training Centre Con O’Sullivan feels this is just the beginning of a wider change.

“Our level of engagement with the public across Open Week is a clear sign that parents, school leavers, career changers and jobseekers are looking for a more direct route to work – through practical skills-training programmes such as apprenticeship, traineeship and professional sevelopment – training that we specialise in here in the Monavalley Campus,” he said.

A new sales focused Digital Marketing Traineeship was announced as well as a new partnership with Code Institute, which offers accelerated training for people who wish to change career and work as Full Stack Software Developers.

This partnership was announced at Momentum 2019 – an event hosted by Kerry ETB Training Centre and Kerry SciTech – which was attended by 80 guests.

Guests at that event heard from Daniel Mackey of Teamwork about the firm’s incredible success as a start up, with 24,000 paying customers across 183 countries; and clients which include Disney, Netflix, Forbes, Paypal and Spotify.

The week also saw Fexco Innovation Lead Guillaume Py launch The Cloud Lab – a new IT Training and Support Hub. The training centre’s 2019 prospectus was also launched.
