Last year’s walk raised €3,500 for the Palliative Care Unit at UHK. There will even be fun riddles along the route encouraging walkers to take part in a bit of extra fun. Walkers are asked to meet at Lyreatough, Kilcummin, which is the start and finish point for the walk. There will also be refreshments, spot prizes and a raffle afterwards.

The walk is held in memory of the late Brendan, who died of cancer in February 2014. His wife, Uná, is the organiser of the fun walk and she describes it as a special day involving the whole community.

“Last year was brilliant and it was very successful, raising €3,500 for the Palliative Care Unit. We’re hoping to do the same this year,” said Uná.

“The walk creates a great atmosphere, and the community really comes together for it. When the walk is finished people can enjoy refreshments like sandwiches and cakes, which are all made locally by neighbours and family,” she said.

Everyone is welcome, and for more info, check out the Brendan O’Leary Memorial Fun Walk Facebook page.
