Kerry and Dublin to renew rivalry in Tralee sell-out

- BY PAUL BRENNAN

TWO years ago the queues outside Austin Stack Park were building two hours before throw-in and similar congestion is expected on Saturday evening when Kerry host National League and All-Ireland champions Dublin in a hotly anticipated rematch at the revamped and sold out Tralee venue.

Few would have thought that Kerry would be coming into this game with two wins from two games, and fewer still would have foreseen Dublin coming down without maximum points from their opening two fixtures. But that’s the context that frames this contest, with Kerry looking for only their second win over Dublin since their League win in 2015.

Kerry manager Peter Keane must wait to see how some of his players come through today’s (Wednesday) Sigerson Cup quarter-finals before finalising the team to start against Dublin.

Sean O’Shea, Killian Spillane and Brian Ó Beaglaoich will be on duty for UCC this eveing against UCD with Keane hoping all three come through unscathed.

Meanwhile, David Moran could be in line for his first start of the year after getting a few minutes of action in the win over Cavan last Sunday.

Moran’s Kerins O’Rahillys team mate Tommy Walsh is also in the reckoning for a starting place after coming on at half time in Cavan and playing well at full forward and further out the field.

Coming back from injury Jason Foley made last Sunday’s match day squad and the Ballydonoghue man could be drafted into the defence, as could Mark Griffin who got some game time last weekend after shaking off a slight injury.

Keane wouldn’t be drawn much on the Dublin game other than to say: “The key for me has been to try and create some bit of a structure, some semblance of a team, and try to get rolling that way. Bit by bit we’re getting a few back but no sooner do you get one or two back but you lose or two again.”
