Hard Brexit border will cause delays

-

LAST Sunday was as close as Kerry supporters will get to leaving the Republic of Ireland this league campaign (though the Super 8s could take us to the Six Counties), as 2019 is one of those rare years when Kerry don’t have a fixture north of the border.

2017 and 2014 were other such years but the NFL has routinely brought the team and supporters to Omagh, Derry, Newry and Armagh, trips currently taken without any hassle.

Alas, with a possible hard Brexit on the cards, and the ramifications for a return to border controls, that could all change, and it would be a huge culture shock to most Kerry GAA folk. We can’t imagine a return to the bad old days of British soldiers maliciously holding up ‘Southerners’ on the border for hours but there will be the potential for bothersome delays that we just aren’t accustomed to.

It could make for even later home times on Sunday nights.
