Super League up and running in East Kerry and Kenmare
EK SUPER LEAGUE ROUND 1 DIVISION 1A Spa 2-16 Currow 1-8
PLAYED under lights in Spa on Friday the home side had the better start with four points on the board early on.
Currow however responded well and by the end of the first quarter had already drawn level courtesy of a Luke Fitzgerald goal. Currow then put three more points on the board before a goal from Spa’s Mike O’Donoghue at the other end gave Spa the narrowest of margins at the break, Spa 1-5 Currow 1-4.
In the second half Spa again had the better start and soon lead 2-9 to 1-4, the goal from Andrew Garnett. Both sides continued to swap points and going in to the final ten minutes Spa were ahead 2-12 to 1-8, and added four more points to their tally before the final whistle.
Listry 1-16 Rathmore 0-6
LISTRY’S Danny Wrenn got the opportunity to put the first point on the scoreboard at the 10th minute of the game. Listry continued to attack and points from Sean Lehane, Geroid Murphy, Sean O Sullivan and two points from Joe Clifford pushing them further ahead.
Dean Fitzgerald into the 14th minute got a lovely point from play putting a score on the board. However the Rathmore men didn’t get much of a scoring chances from the opposition team, however, Tadgh Mahony and Mike A Kelliher got two points to bring the scoreline closer. Listry led by 0-6 to Rathmore 0-3 at the break but every point had to be hard fought for by the Listry men.
The second half was a comfortable win over a well deserved Listry team. They had real strength in depth when Anthony Sweeney in the 26th minute buried the ball into the net. Listry completely dominated the second half and ran out easy winners.
Glenflesk 2-13 Fossa 1-8
GLENFLESK made a very positive start to the season with a 3-13 to 1-8 victory over Fossa.
The game was played in Fossa’s grounds which had held well despite this week’s poor weather. Glenflesk started well and and went into a 1-6 0-4 point lead after 24 minutes with the goal coming from Gavin Kelly after good build up play from Darragh Roche who was in great form. Two more points from play from Darragh Roche saw us take a healthy 1-8 to 0-4 points lead into the break.
The second half continued in much the same vein with Glenflesk’s impressive half back line of Johnathan Bowler, Brian O’Donoghue and Alan Murphy controlling the game. A superb Ian Roche goal in the 24th minute of the second half finished the game as a contest. The Fossa goal came from Tadghe O’Shea.
EK SUPER LEAGUE DIVISION 1B Killarney Legion 1-10 Firies 1-7
AN evenly contested game in Direen with some good play from both sides.
Legion had a good start to this game but Firies improved as the game went on. Some well taken scores throughout with Conor Keane’s well worked goal the difference at the end.
EK SENIOR LEAGUE DIVISION 2 Gneeveguilla 1-13 Kenmare 0-9
GNEEVEGUILLA dominated the first half of the game leading 1-12 to 0-1 the goal scored by Jamie Brosnan. Kenmare rallied back in second half but left too much to do losing out by seven points at the end.
