CALL FOR CRASH BARRIER TO BE ERECTED
A Local Councillor has called on Kerry County Council and Transport Infrastructure Ireland to provide a Crash Barrier/Safety Barrier in the vicinity of Quaybawn Cross on the famous Ring of Kerry Road. Councillor Michael Cahill who raised the matter at a recent meeting of Kerry County Council called on the Authorities to protect all road users from the very steep, unprotected drop at this location.
The Fianna Fail Councillor described the area in question between Killorglin and Glenbeigh as an accident waiting to happen. Responding to Councillor Cahill, Padraic Teahan, Senior Roads Engineer with Kerry County Council said the area in question will be assessed by Transport Infrastructure Ireland appointed Consultants. Locations that may require vehicle restraint systems and which are subsequently confirmed by the assessment process will be forwarded for detailed design and implementation
REPLY: Transport Infrastructure Ireland have appointed consultants to assess the need for vehicle restraint systems at identified locations on the national road network in the County. This location will be included in the next phase of assessments. Locations that may require vehicle restraint systems and which are subsequently confirmed by the assessment process will be forwarded for detailed design and implementation.
