Poetic end to Noreen’s fundraising

- By TADHG EVANS

NOREEN Ahern’s poetry has again worked wonders for good causes, as the Caragh Lake resident donated €4,000 – raised by her third anthology, 2018’s ‘ What Lies Beneath’ – at O’Grady’s in Killorglin last Friday.

It brings to €10,000 the total raised for good causes by her three books – she has also released ‘ From Kitchen Table to World’s Edge’ and ‘ World’s Apart’ since 2014 – and she explained that O’Grady’s was a fitting venue for the presentation given that it was also the scene of the book’s launch.

“It was where it all started,” the former primary school teacher said. “Killorglin Hospice, the Valentia Lifeboat Service, and Breakthrough Cancer Research Cork received €1,000 each. Enable Ireland got €800, and Animal Help Net Kerry, previous beneficiaries, got €200.

“I’d like to thank everyone who bought a copy of the book, as well as everyone who sold the book.”

On the latter front, she was especially thankful to Crystal Cave book shop in Killorglin, always big supporters of Noreen’s work.

Some copies do remain, however, and Noreen explained that anyone who’d like a read of the anthology will still have a few opportunites to purchase a copy.

“I’ll have the book on sale at the Threshing Cancer event in Beaufort later this year, and I’ll be doing the same at various markets around the county,” she said. “It’s still going to be on sale at Crystal Cave as well.

“The books that are still available will go towards the costs of printing that were involved.

“All the charities are close to my heart, and I’d like to thank everyone who has helped.”
