Islanders take vital victory in Premier A

DENNY PREMIER A Killarney Athletic 1 Castleisland 4

THIS was a game both sides needed to win to enhance their title prospects and Castleisland came back from a goal down to record a comfortable win at the end.

The home side took the lead after eleven minutes with a Danny Healy goal from a corner kick. Castleisland levelled the game just before half time with Tommy Feehan converting a penalty kick after Colin McCarthy was brought down in the box.

Assisted with the wind Castleisland dominated the second half and a brace of goals from Colin McCarthy and another from Tommy Feehan ensured they collected the three points.

This win moves Castleisland into second place in the table two points ahead of Listowel Celtic, but the Fealesiders have two games in hand. It looks as if Athletic are out of the hunt now unless that can defeat Celtic next Sunday in the big town derby.

DENNY DIVISION 1B Classic FC B 0 The Park 2

THE Park gave themselves a decent chance of qualifying for the league final after a good win over Classic FC B in their final league game of the season. David Courtney and Simon Kedzierski scored the winners.

It is now a waiting game for he The Tralee side as Castlegregory have four games in hand and should make the decider. The only other side that can pip them to the post is Castlemaine United, but they will have to win their three games in hand and that is a tall order and Castlegregory will have to drop points.

However, one of these games is against Castlegregory and this could be the defining game that will decide the two teams that will make it to the final. It is a game Castlemaine will have to win as otherwise Castlegregory will qualify for the final.

Unfortunately for the Park, five of their young talented players are contracted to play with the Kerry under 19 team on March 10 and they will be a huge loss ahead of a possible final.

Windmill United 2 Castlemaine United 6

CASTLEMAINE United kept themselves in the title race with a big win over Windmill United at Mounthawk Park on Saturday night. Jerome Flynn, Pa Wren, Wayne Coffey, Shane O’Sullivan, Gavin O’Brien and Padraig O’Brien scored for the winners.
