Great community spirit at Red Fox Tractor Run
THE roads around Glenbeigh, Cromane, Killorglin, Caragh Lake and The Red Fox Inn hosted a very special tractor run on Sunday to raise funds for important local charities. Now in its third year, The Red Fox Inn Tractor Run is held in memory of the late John Teahan, who was a great supporter of the event and was extremely well known and respected in his community.
Over 111 tractors registered for the run as they snaked their way to The Red Fox on early Sunday morning from all parts of the county.
In terms of entertainment, the day didn’t disappoint either, as it produced a lively atmosphere for kids and adults alike to enjoy, with plenty of spot prizes and raffles keeping excitement levels up.
“It was fantastic and there was such a lovely atmosphere there on Sunday. People really pushed the boat out for the event,” said Jenny Teahan, wife of the late John.
The proceeds from this year’s tractor run have not been finalised yet, but they will go to the Palliative Care Room in St Joseph’s Killorglin and to the Killorglin Branch of the Irish Pilgrimage Trust, an organisation that takes children and adults with special needs to Lourdes.
Jenny said it was also a day when local children and teenagers got an opportunity to see for themselves the positive side of community life and people gelling together. She also thanked the local businesses and individuals for being so generous in donating prizes on the day:
“I think it’s important for kids and teenagers to see community spirit in action, as it lets them know that there are people there to help when you need them. It’s great for them to see that not all’s bad in society and that they can play a part.”
