ALL-KERRY CLASH IN GIRLS’ POSTPRIMARY MUNSTER FINALS HELD IN LIXNAW

Causeway Comp emerge victorious in hardfought encounter with St Joseph’s School

-

SOME of the county’s greatest female footballing talent at secondary level displayed their skills to perfection this week in the Lidl Munster Post Primary Senior E Cup Final, held in the Lixnaw GAA Grounds on Friday.

St Joseph’s Secondary School, Ballybunion, under captain Katie Joy, went head-to-head with Causeway Comprehensive under captain Kate Kearney in the big match – with wellknown ref Seamus Mulvihill overseeing the game.

Both teams battled hard in the first half, with Causeway on top for most of it, their midfield and forwards working the ball well and making every kick count. St Joseph’s backs were under pressure, but brilliant saves from Sophia Hegarty kept the girls in touch. Half time saw Causeway leading St Joseph’s 4-5 to 1-4. In the second half, both teams battled hard as St Joseph’s backs got to grips with their markers. Molly Murphy at the full back line was getting her line in order, and Ava Joy was outstanding at corner back. Fantastic runs from Caoimhe Spillane, Katie Dunworth and Eabha Moloney saw St Joseph’s two corner forwards – Millie Byrne and Caoimhe O’Connor – score fantastic goals and points. A penalty scored by Causeway’s Amy O Sullivan left St Joseph’s chasing again. With time almost up, St Josephs were pushing for a goal, but the Causeway backs forced them out as the team received the cup on a score-line of 7-12 to 6-6.

Both sides were praised for their passion and skills.
