Futsal focus in Community Games

COMMUNITY Games competitio­ns concentrat­ed on Futsal last weekend. Futsal is a 5-a-side soccer played with a ball with little bounce to promote skill and in all the competitio­ns there was certainly plenty of skill on show by all teams.

The U-15 Girls Futsal was played in Duagh with six teams competing - Listowel, Spa Fenit Barrow, Fossa, Duagh/Lyre, Kenmare, and Moyvane/Knockanure. After the earlier group matches, Spa Fenit Barrow girls captured the Bronze medals winning by 3-2 dagainst Fossa who received the Pewter medals.

The final was a fantastic encounter between Duagh/Lyre and defending title holders Moyvane-Knockanure. This game with both defences on top looked like it was heading for extra time but a fantastic counter attack by Moyvane/Knockanure girls saw Kelly Enright score to win the game 1 nil and the Gold medals and retain their title and a gallant Duagh/Lyre team receiving the Silver medals. RESULTS: 1. Moyvane/Knockanure; 2. Duagh/Lyre; 3rd Spa Fenit Barrow; 4th Fossa.

THE U-15 Boys Futsal took place in two venues. In Duagh the two teams that have qualified out of the group of five are Ballyheigu­e who won all their games and Ballymacel­ligott who finished second in the group. The other three teams in this venue were Duagh/Lyre, Listowel and Spa Fenit/Barrow.

In Milltown, four teams competed in round robin format with Fossa qualifying as group winners and Glenflesk in second place. The four teams from the two venues will now contest the County Semi-finals.

IN U-13 Futsal Boys 11 teams competed. In Duagh, five teams played in a round robin format with top two teams qualifying. Duagh/ Lyre and Ballybunio­n finished level on top of the table on 10 pts with three wins and one draw. The other teams were Spa Fenit/Barrow, Listowel, and Knocknagos­hel. In Milltown, six teams competed in round robin format and the two teams that have qualified with 3 wins and two draws apiece are Kenmare and Killarney.

The other teams who put in excellent performanc­es were Mill- town/Listry, Keel/Kiltallagh, Fossa, and Glenflesk. The four teams from both venues will now contest the County semi-finals.

IN U-13 Girls Futsal seven teams divided into two groups competed in Duagh Sport Complex. In Group 1 - Milltown/Listry and Kenmare both had victories over Duagh/ Lyre and Ballyduff with Milltown/ Listry gaining their place in the final in a very close encounter with Kenmare, coming out winners by 3 goals to 2.

In Group 2, Castlegreg­ory topped the table here with victories over Listowel and Ballybunio­n with Listowel defeating Ballybunio­n 1-0 to qualify for the play off. Here in this game, Kenmare scored the only goal to win the bronze medals with the Listowel girls collecting the pewter medals. The final was a brilliant encounter with Castlegreg­ory going into the lead on two occasions but Milltown/Listry girls stuck to their task and scored the winner with just two minutes left to win by 3-2 to claim the cxounty title and gold medals with a fantastic Castlegreg­ory side receiving the Silver medals.
