Kerry team secure their Camogie Division 2 status

NATIONAL CAMOGIE LEAGUE DIVISION 2 PLAY-OFF Kerry 0-8 Carlow 0-3

KERRY travelled to the Ragg in Thurles today to face Carlow in the Littlewoods Ireland National Camogie League Division 2 Play-off with the winners safe in Division 2 for the 2020 season while the losers would have to face Dublin on Sunday next to decide who would survive in the second tier. On a perfect day for camogie, it was Kerry who hit the ground running and three Patrice Diggin frees had them 0-3 to 0-0 ahead at the ten minute mark and ten minutes later, the same player had extended Kerry’s lead to five. Carlow opened their account in the 24th minute with a free from Eleanor Treacy, which was the final score of the first half.

Upon the resumption, it was Kerry’s Jackie Horgan who got the first score of the second half with a strike from play in the 42nd minute. However, by the 48th minute Eleanor Treacy with two frees put just three points between the sides. Patrice Diggin pushed it out to four in the 53rd with another free and a Laura Collins strike from play in injury-time saw Kerry end up as five-point winners.

So Kerry secure their Division Two status and Carlow will face Dublin. Kerry will be pleased to have played well against the bigger guns of camogie in this Division Two campaign and were unlucky not to be rewarded for those performances. So a good day for Kerry camogie as they remain in the second tier and they can now look forward to championship action with confidence. KERRY: Aoife Fitzgerald, Liz Houlihan, Niamh Leen, Michelle Costello, Patrice Diggin 0-6f, Sara Murphy, Aoife Behan, Elaine Ryall, Rachel McCarthy, Julianne O’Keeffe, Laura Collins 0-1, Eilish Harrington, Alannah Whelan, Jackie Horgan 0-1, Brid Horan.
