Singing success for charity at the Blackwater Tavern

THEY say practice makes perfect, and that is certainly the case for Blackwater singers who joined forces with Soprano Mary Culloty O’Sullivan and Killarney Ladies singing group ‘Finding your Voice’ to bring a wonderful night of entertainment to Blackwater Tavern.

The newly founded Blackwater singing group have been perfecting their talent in recent months, and they brought to this to the fore with their repertoire of songs on Thursday night, which ended with Ireland’s Call and a standing ovation.

They were supported by the Killarney choir, and the event was directed by Mary Culloty O’Sullivan.

Both choirs chose a charity for the event, with Blackwater Women’s Group selecting Crumlin Children’s Hospital. One of its members, Tess O’Connell, knows first-hand how important the hospital is as her granddaughter, Amy, had life-saving surgery at the hospital. The Killarney choir chose a Go Fund Me Campaign for Tralee boy Noah Switzer Buckley, who has autism. Friends are rallying around the family to help them buy a new home.

Local businesses helped support the night with wonderful spot prizes and, in total, €1,800 was raised. €900 will be donated to each beneficiary.

Chairperson of Blackwater Women’s Group, Mary O’Neill, thanked everyone who came to support the event, and she is calling on more people to join the choir. Singing classes continue on the first three Wednesdays in May and again in September.
