Parents raise a cup for Cahir NS funds
CHILDREN at Cahir National School in Kenmare are to get new sports and music equipment and it is thanks to the parents association of the local school, who organised a fundraising coffee morning recently.
The morning was an opportunity for parents to meet for a social occasion but most importantly to raise funds for the school and they received great support from the local community.
The fundraising coffee morning is the main fundraiser for the school organised by the parents every year and this year marked another successful event.
Chairperson of the parent’s association, Susan Hussey, said this year was the best year to date in terms of fundraising and this was down to the sale of raffle tickets prior to the coffee morning. This allowed parents who couldn’t attend to support the event.
Local businesses came on board to support fundraising efforts and donated prizes for the raffle and there was great excitement at the host of prizes available.
“We want to thank everyone who helped us including local businesses and the Landsdowne Arms Hotel who gave us the venue for free,” said Susan.
“A lot of parents contributed to the event by buying raffle even if they could not attend and this helped raise more funds.”
Parents baked home-treats for the occasion and they were enjoyed by all who attended.
The money from the coffee morning will be used to purchase sports and music equipment and to help towards the cost of school tours.
