Cars rev up with new Colours

COLOURS the new album from Dingle four piece Walking on Cars was released on Friday to critical acclaim.

Music critics have resorted to superlatives, describing the album as “superb” and the band’s best work to date. Following the success of their first album, which sold over 300,000 units and went double platinum, the band look set for a very successful year.

In the highly competitive music industry, a band’s second album is critical either indicating further expansion of their audience or a loss of favour which can consign a band to smaller venues and a change in career path. However, with this second album, Walking on Cars have produced a more polished sound with lead singer Pa Sheehy’s vocals more to the fore than previously, allowing greater appreciation of the lyrics.

Their songs probe into human nature, warts and all, delving deep into the areas of addiction and troubled human relationships, and emerge presented fit for consumption in melodic synth-rock format. Like Mary Poppins’ spoonful of sugar Walking on Car’s tuneful lyrics help the medicine go down, but they manage to achieve this without going down the road of saccharine-tinged sentimentality. Record companies and marketing aside, Walking on Cars carry a message of strife and atonement to young people across Europe.

Having graced the cover of Hot Press magazine for a second time, the band will set out on a European tour this week, equipped with their new work and the experience of major tours already under their belt. Walking on Cars will return to Ireland to perform headline concerts at the Waterfront Hall in Belfast, Dublin’s 3Arena and Irish Independent Park in Cork in May.
