Kerry see off the Dubs to reach All Ireland final

- BY CON DENNEHY

DUBLIN flags, two highly fancied handballers in sky blue jerseys, vocal home support and a desire for All Ireland glory were the perfect ingredients for Kerry players in a hotly contested All Ireland 40x20 Master A Doubles semi final in Glenbeigh on Sunday.

In a classic Kerry-Dublin encounter, Glenbeigh Handball Pavilion was packed to capacity to cheer on John Joe Quirke and Dominick Lynch from the home club as they took a step closer to a coveted National title. With Lynch still on target to win his 32nd All Ireland medal, this game had the home crowd cheering from the start.

“Kerry were on top from the start. The Dublin duo of Egin Jensen and Jonathan Westlake were decisively beaten 21-2 and 21-3. John Joe was superb on the right retrieving great shots and Dominick had some great kill shots to ensure a victory for the home side.

“The win sets up a repeat of last year’s All Ireland final with Antrim in Kingscourt, Co. Cavan in 2 weeks time. This is set to be a classic final with four great athletes,” said Jack O’Shea, PRO of Kerry Handball Board.

To coincide with the Kerry-Dublin All Ireland Handball semi final on Sunday, Glenbeigh Handball Club, officially launched their Picture Gallery at their magnificent Pavilion in the heart of Glenbeigh Village.

“The extensive gallery features photographs of local players who won Cumann na mBunscoil titles, All Ireland Senior titles, World titles and All Ireland titles at various grades in addition to newspaper articles and other items.

“It is creating a lot of interest and is a lovely feature for locals and visitors to our facility,” Jack O’Shea said.
