Rathmore claim Higgins Cup crown from Colaiste na Sceilge

-

SIX days on from the disappointment in Croke Park in the Paddy Drummond Final for some of their U-19 contingent, there was at least some consolation of a second Munster title for SPSL Rathmore’s U-16½ contingent as they won the Liam Higgins Memorial Cup (Munster B) in Listry last Friday lunchtime by 11 points from Colaiste Na Sceilge.

Their goalscorer in Croke Park, Aaron Cronin was the provider to Paudie O’Leary for their first goal although two points each from Colaiste Na Sceilge’s Tadhg O’Connor and Sonny Curran had the scores level at 1-1 to 0-4. Cathal Ryan and Michael McSweeney helped the East Kerry School to a lead of 1-4 to 0-4 at half-time however.

James Darmody scored 1-1 after the restart for SPSL as they took control of proceedings from there with a great save by the South Kerry School’s goalkeeper Austin Murphy not enough to deter substitute Kevin Bowler from scoring a third goal for the victors in a later attack.

Fionan O’Sullivan did put over a decent consolation score late on for Na Sceilge but SPSL ended their 2018/19 campaign Munster B Champions at both U-16½ and U-19 level.
