Annascaul Inch dig out Cup win after extra-time win

-

DIVISION 2A side Annascaul/Inch United appeared to be in trouble in this cup tie after going two goals down after just five minutes but they staged a remarkable recovery winning the game in extra time in a closely contested encounter.

Kilmoyley got off to a flying start and found the net twice in the opening 5 minutes of the game.

The first goal came after two minutes with the impressive Daniel Collins using his speed and fancy footwork to get past a number of defenders and he finished to the net in impressive style.

It even got better for Kilmoyley three minutes later when Jordan Brick used his tenacity and strength to win the ball and he made no mistake from close range and it looked as if his side were on their way to a comfortable win.

However Annascaul/Inch rallied the troops and began to get a foothold on the game.

Paddy Daly stung the gloves of netminder Martin Godley and a powerful shot by Mark Sheehy was taken off the line Florence McCarthy.

Kilmoyley had a chance to extend their lead before halftime but Jordan Brick was denied by a fine save by Tommy Pierce.

Annascaul/Inch started the second half very strongly and pulled a goal back after three minutes with a well taken goal by Simon McCarthy. McCarthy went close to grabbing an equaliser just before the hour mark only to see his shot go inches wide.

Five minutes later Kilmoyley went two goals clear again with a fine strike from Jordan Brick and it looked as if their were on their way to victory.

However Annascaul/Inch dug deep and Simon McCarthy managed to find the net from the most acutest of angles and now the game as in the melting pot.

Annascaul/Inch scored the equaliser in the 80th minute when a Jerry Foley corner kick went all the way to the net.

Annascaul/Inch keeper Tommy Pierce kept his side in the game in the 89th minute with a great save from a defected shot.

With the sides deadlocked after 90 minutes it progressed to extra time. Nether side could get the breakthrough in the first period of extra time but Sam Moriarty sealed the game for Annascaul Inch mid way through the second period with a great finish.

The winners are away to Strand Road in the next round. ANASCAUL INCH UNITED: Tommy Pierce, Joe Kennedy, John A. Power, Daniel O’Connell, Gary Counihan, Paddy Daly, Simon McCarthy, Timmy Smith, Sam Moriarty, Jerry Foley, Mark Sheehy.
