The Kerryman (South Kerry Edition)
BEAUFORT GAA DINES IN STYLE
IT’S been a momentous 12 months for Beaufort GAA, to put it mildly, and there was an atmosphere to match at the club’s social, meal, disco and dance on Sunday night in the Killarney Oaks Hotel.
Of course, triumphs in the county, Munster and All-Ireland Junior Championship were to the forefront of everyone’s thoughts.
But the all-conquering seniors also won the Mid Kerry League, while the club’s minor side were champions in the Division Four County League also, proving there is some young talent to look forward to in the future.
After some photography was out of the way, the 200 or so people in attendance settled down for the medal presentation honouring the 2019 All-Ireland Junior Champions, as well as for the County League-winning minors.
“We had County Board Chairperson Tim Murphy there for that side of things,” Beaufort Secretary Bridget Hartnett explained.
“We had photographs beforehand of the winning teams, and the night also consisted of a meal, and a dance and a disco later on in the night then,” she added.
Clubs are nothing without those who support them, however, and that was brought to the forefront again with a very special and appreciated presentation.
The Two Mikes recorded Neily O’Sullivan’s ‘Lios a’ Phúca Abú’ in the run-up to the club’s trip to Croke Park, but the song will have a positive effect for a while more, it would seem.
“The song raised about €800, and that was handed over the last night,” Bridget explained.
“All in all, there was a great atmosphere on the night to celebrate what had been a great year.”
