Kerry handball gold on the line in Cavan
OVER the decades Kerry has produced many top class handballers who have graced the National and International stage but few have had the charisma, years of selfless dedication and sheer class of John Joe Quirke and Dominick Lynch from Glenbeigh.
The Mid Kerry sports icons will travel to Cavan this week where they will represent Kerry at the All Ireland Masters 40x20 Doubles finals in Kingscourt. In a weekend dedicated to the National championships, the Kerry duo will take on Sean Devine and Seamus O Tuma from Antrim on Saturday at 1pm.
“This is a repeat of last year’s final which Kerry won in the opening two games. Past history counts for nothing on Saturday and while it is again expected to be a classic encounter, Kerry will have to on top of their game if they are to forge out a victory,” said Jack O’Shea, Kerry Handball Board PRO.
The All-Ireland semi-finals played in Glenbeigh two weeks ago was a classic Kerry-Dublin encounter where Kerry were on top from the start. The Dublin duo of Egin Jensen and Jonathan Westlake were decisively beaten 21-2 and 21-3.
“If Kerry win on Saturday we can expect great celebrations in Glenbeigh,” O’Shea said. “Both John Joe and Dominick are wonderful role models for all our players.
“The game will have an extra edge for Dominick. If they win he will collect his 32nd All-Ireland medal, a truly magnificent achievement. However they can expect a tough challenge from the Antrim team who are determined to ensure a win on Saturday and erase the disappointment of last year.”
