COMMUNITY GAMES

INDOOR SOCCER: Last weekend was a special Easter weekend for eight girls and their coaches. The Firies U13 Indoor Soccer team (Katie Doe, Laura Flynn, Sarah Palmer, Kerri Breen O’Riordan, Aoife O’Sullivan, Emma O’Brien, Clodagh Moriarty and Aideen O’Brien and their management and coaches Bernie Doe, Jason O’Brien and Seamus O’Brien), representing the parish and of course Kerry won the Munster Finals in Tralee. This was a brilliant result, as since they joined forces under coaches Jason and Seamus they have worked extremely hard to come together as a team. After winning the Kerry crown they have had numerous hard sessions and a few challenge matches to sharpen themselves up and it has all paid off with now the All Ireland in May in their sights.

In the Semi Finals they were absolutely clinical and won 11 2 against a handy Waterford side that had beaten Tipperary earlier in the day. In the Final the great play continued and they came out on top 9 2 against a very good Clare side who had swept aside Limerick and then Cork in their other matches.. Well done to all the girls, coaches and management, the parents and everyone supporting them along the way, it was a huge achievement and now it’s off to the Community Games May Festival at the end of May in UL to play for All Ireland status.

GAELIC FOOTBALL: This year we are putting an U10 Mixed team into the competitions. The dates you need to be available are Monday 3rd June (Bank Holiday Monday) and if the team makes the finals also on Friday 7th June. Players (must be under 10 as of the 31/7/2019). Details and trial dates will be available shortly so keep an eye out on the Facebook page.

ATHLETICS

The date has been set for our annual athletics meeting for Tuesday 6th May starting promptly at 6.00pm at the Firies GAA Pitch. This event to be run effectively requires volunteers to help on the night. You do not need an athletics background, just bundles of enthusiasm and loads of energy. Please if you can help out on the night contact P.J. Walsh (0872229950) as soon as possible to express your interest. Further details will be available again on the Facebook page.
