The Kerryman (South Kerry Edition)
Another winners for Brouder
LISTOWEL jockey has followed on from a spate of winners last week by riding another victory in Galway yesterday (Tuesday).
Brouder piloted Pakens Rock to an 11-length victory in the Faber Audiovisuals Novice Hurdle for 4-y-o plus for trainer Barry Murphy. The Kerry man made all the running aboard the 11/4 fav and cruised to a hands and heels win ahead of Drop The Anchor in the seven runner field.
Only three riders - Paul Townend, Darragh O’Keeffe and Davy Russell - have ridden more winners than Kevin Brouder this season and the Listowel jockey now has 28 winners after a hugely memorable week.
Brouder landed his first graded success when he won the Grade 3 Joe Mac Novice Hurdle on the Charles Byrnes-trained Turnpike Trip at Tipperary on Sunday. The 6/4 favourite got it all wrong at the final flight but battled well when challenged by Razoul to win by half a length.
Brouder had begun his week with a single success at Roscommon last Monday week when he partnered the Charles Byrnestrained The Big Galloper to win the 2m4f maiden hurdle. Backed from 20/1 overnight and from 9/2 to 7/4 favourite at the track, the five-year-old battled well when challenged in the closing stages to win by a neck from Shanawalla.
Brouder carried his good form into the weekend and shared a winner at Gowran Park on Friday with Wexford trainer Paul Nolan. The pair landed the 2m handicap hurdle with the Ratpak Partnership-owned Wild Desire, the 6/1 chance going clear from the second last flight to beat 4/1 favourite Blackyellowred by seven lengths.
Leahman was Brouder’s first winner on Saturday where he scored a runaway success in the three-year-old maiden hurdle for Carrigtwohill trainer Terrence O’Brien. The 6/1 chance was nicely clear throughout the 2m race and was left in splendid isolation when Theatre Of War unshipped his rider at the second last flight. The winner carries the colours of Brian Leahy and scored by all of 33 lengths.
The Listowel jockey also took the 3m1f handicap chase on the Keith Clarke-trained Wonderoftheworld. Carrying the colours of Barry Connell, the 8/1 chance was left clear by the fall of Graineyhill at the final fence and was eased in the closing stages. The Cork Grand National might be a possibility for the winner.
