The Kerryman (South Kerry Edition)
North Kerry champions get defence underway
IT’S that time of year again where we kick of our most coveted competition of our calendar year, the Bernard O’Callaghan Senior Football Championship sponsored by McMunns Bar and Restaurant Ballybunion.
The first rounds have been delayed due to the County Championship with Shannon Rangers and St Kierans involved but two round 1 games take place this weekend.
First up will see Asdee play Duagh in O’Sullivan Park Finuge on Saturday, October 19 with a 3pm throw in.
Both of these teams have done well this year in their county leagues, Asdee are coming off the back of a great North Kerry Division 2 League win, were we seen some moments of magic from the Asdee men to win this competition for the first time in their clubs history.
Duagh have been promoted out of Division 4 of the County League for next year and will fancy themselves to go on in the Senior Championship to the Quarter Final stages. But as we all know the North Kerry Championship can throw up some surprises and the Asdee supporters will be hoping this is the year to do it.
On Sunday, October 20 we see current Championship holders St Senans at home to Beale with a throw in of 2pm. This will get the neutrals going, as St Senans have not shown the form we expected of them this year in the County League they will remain in Division 3 of the County League for 2020 but are ten points of the top team in the league table. But as this team have proven, never write them off their will be a lot of pride at stake and they will not want to go out in the opening stages.
Beale find themselves in Division 5 football this year a place were none of this team want to be but doing well and determined to get up to Division 4 football for 2020. So can the seasiders knock the current champions out of the competition in round 1 well Mountcoal is the place to be on Sunday.
