BILL TANGNEY CUP Dr Crokes 4-14 Cordal 1-12

DR. Crokes won the Bill Tangney Cup on Sunday, beating Cordal on a scoreline of 4-14 to 1-12. But it was Cordal’s Jonathan O’Donnell, who started the scoring with a point, to which Dr. Crokes replied with one from Chris Doncel.

Brian Reidy lofted a brace of white flags and Sean Walsh raised another for Cordal before Seán Magan pulled one back. Magan followed up with a goal for Dr. Crokes to take the lead for the first time in this game, a lead they never subsequently relinquished. Brian Reidy scored three more points for Cordal, all from frees, before the half-time whistle blew.

Meanwhile, Dr Crokes added to their score, with two points from play by Brendan Falvey, two points from frees by Seán Magan and a point from play from Aaron Murphy. In the midst of all these points, Chris Doncel broke through the Cordal defence and had only the keeper to beat. But Nathan O’Rourke, in the Cordal goal, stood up and save the shot from Doncel. Dr. Crokes led by a goal at halftime, 1-7 to 0-7.

Dr. Crokes got off to the better start in the second half. A point from Chris Doncel and two from Cillian O’Regan before Brendan Falvey slotted a goal. Brian Reidy pointed a free and then converted a penalty. Johnny O’Leary was adjudged to have pushed a Cordal player when trying to clear the ball from his square.

In a quick response, Chris Doncel won a turnover and set up Bryan O’Shea for goal. Another Cillian O’Regan point was more than offset by two points from Brian Reidy. Mark Harnett came on as a substitute and made an immediate impact by scoring a goal and three points. Cordal finished the game with three points from Brian Reidy, Sean Walsh and Jonathan O Donnell.

East Kerry Chairman, Johnny Brosnan, presented the Bill Tangney Cup to Dr. Crokes captain, Cillian O’Regan.
