Mixed fortunes in National Cup

U-12 NATIONAL CUP ROUND 2

THERE are a number of Kerry sides through to Round 3 of the Skechers U-12 National Cup. One goal was enough to see Killarney Athletic defeat Park 2 in Christy Leahy Park and it came from Mark O’Carroll.

There was better news for the Park Premier side as they won the all Kerry clash defeating Inter Kenmare 5-0. The Park’s goals came from Mike Quirke (2), Saad Abdala, Ethan Ballard and Nikita Hoare.

MEK Galaxy will be very happy with their 5-2 win over Lifford Celtic in Clare. Fionn Kennedy with two and one each from James O’Meara, Cillian O’Donoghue and Jack Hallissey were the MEK Galaxy scorers.

Also winning on the road was Killorglin who were 7-1 winner at Newcastlew­est with Brian Mangan, Colm Evens, Eoin Henken and Ciaran Birmingham.

The U-12 National Cup is over for Castleisla­nd who went down 2-0 to Newport at Georgie O’Callaghan Park. Also out are Camp Juniors who lost 5-1 to Mungret after extra time. The game was tied at 1-1 after normal time. Ballyheigu­e went down 3-0 to Herbertsto­wn and Killarney Celtic scored 1-1 late on through Luke O’Shea to level the game away to Bridge United. But the Clare side won 3-2 on penalties.

U-14 NATIONAL CUP ROUND 2

KILLARNEY Celtic thanks to a hat trick from Josh Bowler and a goal from Callum Cronin saw Killarney Celtic through 4-1 at home to Aisling Annacotty B. Killarney Athletic made the journey to Broadford United a winning one. The Athletic goals came from Tom Benson (3), Jason O’Sullivan, Dara Kingston and Aidan Cronin.

Mastergeeh­a were unlucky to come out on the wrong side of a nine-goal thriller away at Granville United. The Kilbrean side had goals from Kealon O’Shea, Sean Doolan, Kieran Nagle and Emmett Spillane but the home side hit five. Listowel Celtic are also out as they lost at home to Abbeyfeale United. The Celtic goals came from Tommy Canty and Evan Boyle.

U-16 NATIONAL CUP ROUND 2

THREE of the five Kerry sides in action have gone through. There was one all Kerry clash when the Park just got past MEK Galaxy 2-1 in Fossa. Cian O’Neill and Calum O’Sullivan were on the mark for the Park with Shane O’Connor scoring for MEK Galaxy.

Ballyhar Dynamos had an impressive 5-1 win away at Ardcroney. Aaron Burke scored three and Steven Palmer and Declan O’Connor one each.

Killorglin got through 3-0 over Ballingarr­y but Killarney Celtic are out losing 4-0 at Shannon Town. They went behind to a first half penalty and were chasing the game when caught three3 times late on.

This weekend it will be the turn of the U-13s and U-15s sides left after Round 1 to look to progress.
