Listowel’s great eight in Cup win

-

MUNSTER JUNIOR CUP Listowel Celtic 8 The Park 0

AS the scoreline suggests this was a one sided game at Pat Kennedy Park on Sunday with Premier A side Listowel Celtic far too good for Division 1A side The Park.

Celtic were in control of this game from the beginning and won it in very easy fashion at the end.

The Park made a fight of it in the first half but they were trailing 3-0 at the interval.

Celtic went ahead after 10 minutes after a quick corner kick Paudie Quinn blasted the ball to the net from outside the box.

Quinn was the provider for the second goal 3 minutes later and Ashley Kelliher finished to the net.

FAI JUNIOR CUP ROUND 3

THERE were six Kerry teams in the draw for the third round of the FAI Junior Cup and it was mixed fortunes for all involved with four teams getting home draws and two got away ties. The good news is that all the clubs avoided to big guns in the draw which gives them optimism for the games ahead.

Killarney Celtic are at home to Clare side Coole FC, Castleisland entertain Desmond League side Newcastlewest Town FC and The Park host Clare side Shannon Olympic and Fenit Samphires are at home to Ennis side Lifford FC. Windmill United travel to Clare to play Shannon Hibs while Killarney Athletic are away to Ennis Town.

The game between Castleisland and Newcastlewest Town FC has been brought forward a week to this Saturday evening at Georgie O’Callaghan Park at 6pm.

Further goals from sub Darragh Mackessy and Jo Jo Grimes completed the rout for the Fealesiders.

Castleisland 0 Killarney Athletic 1

THE big heavyweight clash at Georgie O’Callaghan Park on Saturday night was predictably a tight affair with the outcome uncertain right up to the very end.

Athletic started the better side and took the game to the home side from the first whistle and went 1-0 after 6 minutes when a Castleisland defender left a back pass too short for his keeper and William Courtney pounced to beat Stephen Bartlett from 8 yards.

Athletic continued to dominate and Bartlett made a couple of great saves to keep his side in the game.

Eventually Castleisland managed to get a foothold on the game for the last 15 minutes of the first half and had two good chances to score but Sugrue in the Athletic goals saved both efforts from Colin McCarthy and Mike Hanafin.

Exchanges were relatively even for the first 20 minutes of the second half and after this Castleisland enjoyed a lot of possession but created nothing of note and anytime they got into dangerous positions Athletic defended brilliantly.

Athletic had a great chance to finish off the game in the 80th minute but again Bartlett was the saviour for the home side.

The game petered out quietly after that as Athletic defended superbly and should have added a second on the 85min but shot wide of an open goal.

Athletic were fully deserving winners on a scoreline that flatters Castleisland.

Classic FC ‘A’ 0 Tralee Dynamos 2

TRALEE Dynamos won the Tralee Derby after an entertaining tie against rivals Classic FC. A brace of goals from David Townsend was sufficient to win the game for Dynamos.
