Castleisland U-16s edge out Killarney
MUNSTER CLUB U-16 CONFERENCE 2 Castleisland 20 Killarney 5
IT was wet and windy at the Crageens last Saturday but both sides served up an exciting and skilful contest with Castleisland a little bit stronger than their opponents on the day. Both sides defences were on top with some hard aggressive tackling a feature of the game. Killarney were unfortunate to lose two key players to injury in the first half and Castleisland took advantage by playing some superb running rugby. The home sides try scorers were their outstanding captain Brian McEnery, Denis Horan, Donal Daly and Podge Brosnan whilst Dara Looney touched down for Killarney.
Abbeyfeale 34 Corca Dhuibhne 12
THE scoreline doesn’t really reflect the performance that Corca Dhuibhne gave in this game as three late tries from Abbeyfeale gave a slanted reflection of the final outcome. Corca Dhuibhne actually led by 12-5 at one stage but some injuries to key player was to cost them. The Corca Dhuibhne try scorer were Jimi Fenton and Mikey Devine with Fenton also slotting a conversion.
Killorglin 14 Newcastlewest Estuary 24
KILLORGLIN welcomed the Limerick side to Ballymalis last Saturday and the sides took to the field in near perfect conditions. Killorglin opened the scoring with a great team move which was finished by Donnacha Crowley touching down in the corner with Joe Cronin Langham adding the conversion. The game turned to Newcastlewest’s favour when they scored a converted try. Things got worse for Killorglin when they were shown yellow before half time.
The second half got underway and the visitors scored a brilliant try from a perfectly executed cross field kick. They added another try when Killorglin has a second man in the bin. Some redemption came for Killorglin when Donnachadh O’Connor made a great break for the line and ran in near the posts from nearly his own 22. Newcastlewest Estuary held out though and claimed the points.
MUNSTER CLUB U-18 CONFERENCE 1 Castleisland 0 Killarney 13
THIS game was billed as the standout contest in the division as both sides had enjoyed some epic battles at U-16 level with very little separating the sides. The latest instalment of their rivalry didn’t disappoint as both teams put in huge performances, but it was the visitors who were that little bit sharper and they left with the spoils. Gary Randles was the hero for Killarney with a well worked try whilst Ciaran O’Brien displayed deadly accuracy with the boot and landed 2 penalties.
WEST MUNSTER U-14 LEAGUE Corca Dhuibhne 24 Abbeyfeale 10
CORCA Dhuibhne claimed the points in this encounter and had fine performances from Sean Fenton, Tom Coffey and Sean Quinn in the backs, whilst the forwards as a unit withstood everything that Abbey feale threw at them.
