RAMBLING HOUSE

The long evenings are drawing quickly to a close and the nights are getting longer by the day which bring activities like the Rambling House into their own again. The next Rambling House in Scartaglen Heritage Centre will be on Monday evening October 14 commencing at 9pm. Admission as always is free with a raffle and refreshmen­ts on the night. Everyone welcome.

COOKING DEMONSTRAT­ION

As part of a fundraisin­g drive Scartaglen Ladies Football Club are bringing Top Chef Mark Doe to the Heritage Centre in Scartaglen on Friday December 6th (doors open 7.30pm). Mark will have lots of new and exciting receipes to pass on as well as tips for Christmas cooking etc so it’s a night not to be missed and Mark’s visit last year was a huge success.

AFTERNOON OF PRAYER

John Delaney will be present for an Afternoon of Prayer in Our Lady of Lourdes Church Scartaglen on Sunday October 20th commencing at 2.30pm. All are welcome.

HANDED DOWN

The first ‘Handed Down’ programme in Series 6 of the 2019/2020 season will be held in Scartaglen Heritage Centre on Saturday October 19 commencing at 8pm. The title of the presentati­on is “Kerry Music recorded in New York in 1950” and the presenter is Bryan O Leary. A full house is expected for this very first programme of the new series.

MOBILE LIBRARY

Kerry County Councils mobile library’s next visit to Scartaglen will be on Thursday morning next October 13 from 9.45am to 10.15am.

SUNDAY EVENING DANCING

Michael Collins will provide the entertainm­ent for the Sunday evening dancing in Scartaglen Heritage Centre on Sunday next October 13. Dancing as usual from 9pm-11.30pm with admission being €10.

STAR OF THE LAUNE AC

CROSS COUNTRY

The Intermedia­te and Uneven Age Cross Country Championsh­ips took place in Rathmore last Sunday. Well done to all of our athletes who took part on the day. We had some great results both individual­ly and in the team events. Congratula­tions to Donnacadh Quigg who won gold in the boys U9 race.

Our U11 girls team also took gold, well done to Ciara Eager, Nell Thompson, Emma Casey and Doireann Burke. In the U9 girls race, Meghan Quigg finished 3rd and Alice Eager was 5th. Also doing very well on Sunday were Marina Eager (3rd) and Lola Eager (5th) in the U15 girls race, while Kerry Eager took bronze in the U17 event. Well done also to James Clifford who was amongst the medals in the U19 boys. Next Sunday the Senior, Junior and Juvenile Relay Cross Country Championsh­ips take place in Firies at 11am.

MARRIAGE

Congratula­tions Lucy Hunt, daughter of Harry and Lucille of Cliff Road and Damian Foxall, Caherdanie­l who were married on the 28th of September at her familiy’s restaurant The Smugglers Inn. The wedding ceremony was followed by a Reception in Parknasill­a Hotel. We wish the newlyweds many happy years together.

DEATHS

The death of Teresa Dowling, Dromkeare, Waterville occurred on Monday 30th September at University Hospital Kerry. Her remains were removed from Fitzgerald’s Funeral Home to St Finian’s church on Wednesday evening. Requiem Mass took place on Thursday Oct 3rd and was followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery. Pre-deceased by her husband Ned, Teresa is survived by her sons Edward, Jimmy and Michael, daughters Mary, Bernadette and Anne, grandchild­ren, sister Kathleen, daughters-in-law, sons-in-law, niece, nephews, relatives, neighbours and friends.

Sincere sympathy to Bridie O’Sullivan of Scarriff and her family on the death of her sister Kathleen Griffin whose funeral mass and burial took place in Killorglin on Monday September 30th; to the Cronin family Murreigh and Joan Moriarty and family Kilmackeri­n on the death of their aunt.
