The Kerryman (South Kerry Edition)
Danny Tim follows in footsteps of Churchill, Mandela and Bill Gates!
DANNY TIM O’SULLIVAN SAYS THAT THE FREEDOM OF LONDON IS THE ‘ICING ON THE CAKE’ OF HIS LIFE
WHEN Danny Tim emigrated to the UK at the age of 16, he never thought he would reach the dizzying heights of success that he has reached.
He went in search of work and to build a better life for himself, and through hard work and determination, he achieved more than he could have ever hoped for.
This week the famous Kerry man was given one of the highest UK honours that can be bestowed on someone – The Freedom of the City of London.
This award is a fitting tribute to the Kells man, who has given so much both to his home county and to his adopted home in the UK.
As founder of one of the UK’s biggest construction companies, involved in numerous multi-million Euro projects, Danny Tim has made a huge impact on the construction industry and economy of the UK and has returned much of this success to Kerry as well, providing financial backing to projects close to his heart at home.
At a special ceremony in London last Thursday at the Mansion House, Danny Tim received the honour and was watched by family and friends as he accepted the richly deserved Freedom of the City of London.
Those in attendance included his wife, Sheila, who is from Portagmee.
This was a day that many thought he would never see after he suffered a brain aneurysm last year; it was feared he would not survive this.
However, Danny Tim returned from the brink of death and is now fighting fit.
Though the recipient of more than a few awards over the years, Danny Tim said Thursday’s honour was one of his greatest to date.
“I was just overwhelmed. It was the best ceremony ever. It was fantastic for me, my family and my supporters. It was the icing on the cake,” he said.
“It was really an emotional moment,” he added.
The Freedom of London allows Danny Tim to walk sheep across London Bridge and, in keeping with his love of his roots, the Kells man is planning to do just that next year.
The honour also sees the Kerry man follow in the footsteps of Winston Churchill, Nelson Mandela and Bill Gates, who have also received the hugely prestigious accolade.
