Killarney Credit Union launches current account
IN A major development for the Credit Union sector in Kerry, Killarney Credit Union and Cara Credit Union have launched a fully fledged current account service.
The new credit union current accounts were launched on International Credit Union Day which took place last Thursday.
The new Current Account includes the globally accepted Mastercard Debit Card which allows contactless payments; standing orders; direct debits and the option of an overdraft facility.
Members of Killarney Credit Union and Cara Credit Union can open a Current Account online or in their local Credit Union offices.
CEO of Killarney Credit Union Mark Murphy said the new account with Killarney Credit Union offers a viable alternative to other accounts and it is expected that many customers will come on board.
“Credit unions have been voted the ‘most trusted financial institution’ for many years, and just recently they became the first in the world to receive the coveted the national ‘CX Award for Best Customer Experience in Ireland’ for a record-breaking five years in a row. This trusted position is one we want to build on with this new service launch,” he said.
“We envisage many members switching their day to day banking to the credit union because we are now a community owned viable alternative.”
Cara Credit Union CEO Pa Laide said the new service is a huge development for the union which has branches in Tralee, Castleisland and Killorglin.
“It means credit union members with savings and loans will now be able to get a competitive Current Account from their trusted credit union. They will no longer need to go to a bank to get this service.”
The new CU Current Account has simple and transparent pricing. There is a monthly fee of €4 which will cover unlimited Euro point of sale and contactless transactions. It will also cover unlimited mobile and online banking and unlimited standing orders in addition to direct debit processing and up to five ATM withdrawals per month.
