Priorities for chamber alliance

-

SINCE the Municipal District elections in May, Castleisland Chamber Alliance has been working closely with the locally elected councillors and with the municipal district manager.

“Our aim is to get the priority projects which we have identified on to the Kerry County Council agenda,” said Chamber Chairman Michael John Kearney.

Mr Kearney, who took over the role earlier this year from Patricia Walsh, outlined the development of the following as priorities on the chamber’s list: The Glounsharoon Viewing Point; The Roundabouts on the By-Pass; Road Signage on the By-Pass; The further development of the old Carnegie Library interior to cater for small start-ups and the demand for ‘hot desking’* simultaneously.

The list also includes a proposed culture and heritage centre for the Castleisland region incorporating the works of Con Houlihan and Micheal O’Donohoe, Patrick O’Keeffe and the history of the musicians, singers and dancers of Sliabh Luachra, the history of the Castle on the Island, and sporting history of the district.

Additionally, Castleisland Tidy Towns Committee members have been pushing hard on an agenda focused on regular cleaning of the town and they’re delighted to have finished 2019 with top marks in their county category ahead of Ballybunion, Dingle and Cahersiveen.

“This year, on December 6th we will be unveiling a new, fully lit Christmas Tree, in a prominent position in the town centre.

This is being made possible by member contributions and the support of NEWKD.

“We are also delighted to announce that the roof of the Carnegie building and windows are being replaced.

This is supported by funding secured by the chamber and Kerry County Council from Government funds.

These major works will secure the future of this landmark building for the community for years to come.

“We would also like to invite members of the public to email any suggestions you might have to advance the town - and of course we are seeking new committee members for 2020,” said Mr Kearney in conclusion.

*Hot Desking Explained: Hot Desking is a way of providing the minimum office space where workers do not have their own desk but are given a desk when they need it. This allows a small or start-up company to work in a much more size appropriate premises.
