Kieran reflects on 20 years in business
FOR Kieran Corcoran, owner and founder of ‘Corcoran’s Furniture & Carpets’, it certainly doesn’t feel like it’s been 20 years since he opened his very first store, in Cahersiveen, back in August 1999; now two decades years later and an additional four more stores opened across Kerry and Limerick, and 50 employees, Kieran is this week looking back on his twenty years in business.
From working in construction to learning his trade in business living in London before finally setting up shop in Cahersiveen at the age of 25, it’s been a journey full of ups and downs for Kieran, but thankfully, as he admits, a lot more ups than downs.
“Cahersiveen was the first shop that we opened back in 1999 after we came back from London. There wasn’t too steep of a learning curve, we had a lot of our learning done over in London. It was only when we bought the new premises a few years later and expanded the business that the stress began,” he laughed.
Speaking about why he thinks the business has been so successful for so long, Kieran says that there are a number of reasons.
“Firstly, we would be nowhere without our dedicated staff who work hard to give our customers a pleasant and professional experience. Also our showrooms are bigger than most, allowing us to offer a massive choice of furniture, flooring, accessories, curtains, blinds and most recently, we expanded our range in our Killarney store by adding a new showroom offering a vast choice of tiles, bathroom ware, stoves and fireplaces.”
“We also cater for the commercial sector, supplying hotels, guest houses, B&B’s, schools, golf clubs, and other various businesses; we also have interior designers on hand to help with residential and commercial projects. We are a one stop shop for all your interior requirements.
“We carry major stocks in our central distribution warehouse. This along with a fleet of six delivery trucks, we cover all parts of Kerry, Cork and Limerick every week.
‘Corcoran’s Furniture & Carpets’ currently have five stores in operation in Killarney (Cork Road) Newcastle West (Sheehan’s Road) Cahersiveen (Valentia Road) a Tralee store in Manor West and a Tralee Outlet store on Rock Street which is dedicated to selling off end of the line furniture and accessories at reduced prices.
“There are bargains galore every single day,” said Kieran.
