Maura’s Cottage Flowers

MAURA’S Cottage Flowers is a bespoke floristry service where they grow, cut, arrange and deliver their own flowers. Founded by Maura Sheehy in 2015, the business has, literally, grown steadily and last year Maura was joined by her husband, Tommy.

Now, Maura looks after her customers and does all the arranging while Tommy while Tommy manages the garden and takes care of deliveries. And there are two other part-time florists, who have been with them for years. While Maura’s Cottage Flowers specialises in wedding arrangements they also serve funeral and everyday flowers as well as giving classes and workshops.

They also have a number of weekly contracts, supplying businesses with flowers, for reception areas, for example. All Maura’s flowers are grown organically and the garden outside Tralee is managed in a sustainable way.

In fact, a unique feature of Maura’s Cottage Flowers is that their arrangements come in a wild, natural style. Maura offers one to one consultation with customers, and the time to sit down and take the time to choose exactly what’s right for them. Maura doesn’t do ‘packages’ or believe in once size fits all. Maura also encourages others to upcycle, recycle, grow organically and ‘rewild’ their gardens.

They compost all of their garden waste and use natural resources, such as seaweed and farmyard manure. She works with national schools to encourage school gardening and offers ‘horti-therapy’ to three participants with Kerry Social Farming. Maura also gives talks and demonstrations in the Cork/Kerry region promoting organic gardening and flower farming.
