Rathmore edge out Legion

EAST KERRY MINOR CHAMPIONSH­IP DIVISION 1 FINAL Rathmore 1-18 Legion 1-17

IN ideal settings in Fossa, Legion and Rathmore served up a great game football in Division 1 East Kerry Minor Championsh­ip. This game had everything: good saves, good scores, good tackling and high attention before the end.

Legion opened with a point from William Shine, James Darmody replied from Rathmore with a point. Legion had points from Darragh Lyne, Ryan O’Grady. Rathmore replies with two points from Cathal Ryan and a point from Darragh Rahilly.

Legion were rewarded a penalty and was coolly slotted away by Ryan O’Grady. There were further scores from Legion from Eoghan O’Sullivan, William Shine and Ryan O’Grady. Further points from Cathal Ryan, Darragh Rahilly and David Dineen.

Leaving the half-time are Legion 1-9 Rathmore 0-10. The second half was nip and tuck points from Rathmore from Darragh Rahilly, Dan Murphy and Cathal Ryan to go one point up. Legion cough back with points from Eoin O’Sullivan, William Shine and Ryan O’Grady.

Then Rathmore struck with a great goal from Anthony Darmody. Points were exchanged for Legion from William Shine, Darragh Lyne, Ryan O’Grady. Rathmore scores from Darragh Rahilly Aaron Cronin and David Dineen followed leaving the scores level going into injury time.

Wing-back Cian Dineen from Rathmore showed the forwards how to score with a great point from 50 yards. Which proved to be the final score leaving Rathmore winners with the final score Rathmore 1-18 Legion 1-17.

The cup was presented to winning captain Darragh Rahilly.

EAST KERRY MINOR CHAMPIONSH­IP DIVISION 2 FINAL Dr Crokes 1-11 Gneeveguil­la 1-10

PADDY O’Leary Memorial Park in Gneeveguil­la was the venue this East Kerry Division 2 final played early on Sunday morning. It was a great sporting battle between two committed teams.

Jamie O’Leary opened the scoring for Gneeveguil­la before Adam O’Connell replied for the visitors. Cian McMahon then added a point from play before the same player floated a high ball into the danger area and Evan Looney applied the finish to the net.

Godwin Obeasia pointed to see the town side lead by 1-3 to 0-1 midway through the half. Gneeveguil­la were then to enjoy a fine period of play as Paul O’Leary quickly replied with a well taken goal after a penetratin­g run from Jamie O’Leary.

The O’Learys then added three further points, Jamie (2) and Paul (1) before a fine fisted point by full forward Danny O’Callaghan. This saw the home side lead by two points at half-time 1-5 to 1-3 despite losing midfielder Daniel Fleming to a black card on 21 minutes.

On the resumption both sides traded a brace of frees, two from Dr Crokes by Sean Magann and responses from Danny O’Callaghan. Gneeveguil­la were to miss two further placed ball efforts in this period which were to prove costly as Dr Crokes hit the next three points from Liam Randles, Gary O’Connor and team captain

Padraic Looney.

Paul O’Leary added another Gneeveguil­la free before the unerring Seán Magann hit two more points from frees. In a frantic finish Paul O’Leary pointed again for Gneeveguil­la before substitute Conor O’Brien made an immediate impact by hitting a fine point from distance to tie up the scores with time running out.

Dr Crokes won possession and went in search of a late winner and found a hero when midfielder Harry Potts went on a run and took the responsibi­lity upon himself to slot over the winning point.

This was a fine competitiv­e game played in a good spirit with plenty of skill and endeavour on both sides. After the game East Kerry Board Chairman Johnny Brosnan presented the Division 2 Championsh­ip Cup to Dr Crokes Captain Padraic Looney.

He congratula­ted both clubs and thanked Gneeveguil­la GAA for the use of their fine facilities. He also thanked referee Denis O’Sullivan (Scartaglen) and his four umpires and sponsors The Tatler Jack, Killarney.

Kerry Under 15 Blitz

SPA took part in the Kerry Under 15 blitz at Currans last Thursday night.

The weather was challengin­g for players on the night with rain failing to dampen the spirits. All teams performed well with a young Spa outfit showing great promise to compete so well in a tough group. Milltown won the cup decider with a fantastic team display.

Austin Stacks won the shield scoring freely in attack. Thanks to John Daly (Currans) for supporting Vince Cooper East Kerry / Kenmare GDA and PJ Reidy Mid / South Kerry GDA in running the event. Billy Lacey and Dara O’Shea refereed the games well on the night.

Launch

THE East Kerry Scór launch will take this Thursday, October 24 at 8pm at Killarney Height Hotel all Scór officers are requested to attend as are anyone from clubs that have interest in Scór.
