Four goal Killorglin triumph

-

DENNY PREMIER B Castleisland ‘B’ 0 Killorglin 4

AFTER dropping two points to Killarney Celtic the previous week this was a game that Killorglin needed to win and they done it in impressive fashion at the end at Georgie O’Callaghan Park on Saturday night.

They started the game well and created a number of chances but were unable to convert. They opened their account in the 35th minute in a classical counter attack. Jack O’Sullivan denied Castleisland a goal with a tremendous goal line block and they fashioned a lightening attack down the field and Liam Carey made a superb run up the left wing and crossed low to the back post where Paul McKenna was waiting and he made no mistake.

A minute later Killorglin were dealt a blow when Jack O’Sullivan had to go off with an injury and young Gabriel Griffin was brought in for his league debut. Killorglin held a 1-0 lead at the break.

Five minutes after the restart they doubled their lead when Tim O’Shea dropped a hopeful ball into the box which the Castleisland keeper didn’t deal with and Lee Carey was there for the tap in goal.

Eoin Clifford made it 3-0 in the 61st minute with a fine header from a Dylan O’Sullivan corner. Killorglin then made a few changes bringing on Conor Burke, Stephen Sealy, Paddy Collins and Brendy Breen with about 20 minutes to go but the game was all but over as a contest at this stage. Liam Carey added a fourth goal to cap a good individual performance.

It was a very solid all round display by the Launesiders and they will feature prominently in the title race this season. They now have four points after two games and will be hoping they keep the momentum going in a very competitive division where any of four or five teams are capable of winning the league title.
