The Kerryman (South Kerry Edition)
Riverside Guesthouse, Killorglin
RIVERSIDE Guesthouse on Lower Bridge St in Killorglin is a luxury B&B run by the Houlihan family with a total of 12 staff. Overlooking the River Laune, the setting is spectacular and the Houlihan family pride themselves in providing top class accommodation all year round – including Christmas Day. The Houlihan’s are very willing to go that extra mile for their guests, be that collecting people from the airport or bus/train station, or adding to guests celebrations, such as birthdays or weddings. That even extends to tracing visitors roots or helping plan their itineraries while visiting Kerry. The Houlihans have a simple philosophy of appreciating each and every guest who comes through the door. Since purchasing the Riverside Guesthouse two years ago the Houlihans have completely renovated the premises, at a cost of €100,000. This meant meant employing 35 people locally and all materials were also purchased locally. The Houlihans are also enthusiastic supporters of Puck Fair and the annual K Fest, as well as supporting several local sports clubs. Their appreciative attitude to their guests also extends to their staff, who are encouraged to also promote their beautiful town and county. They hold regular meetings with staff and there are year-end bonuses also. The winning of a number of awards have also been a great motivation for both the Houlihans and their staff, as have the overwhelmingly positive reviews by guests. Theses reviews have put the Riverside Guesthouse among the top 3% in the world for hospitality. For the Houlihans, it is this positive feedback that is their big reward, and keeps them striving to do ever better.
