Community College’s big night
COLLEGE OPENS UP TO SHOWCASE ITS MANY VALUES
IT WAS a big night on New Road recently as a large number of parents and students called in to Killarney Community College for a well-received open evening at the school.
All of the many areas of the school’s expertise were on full show. For example, in the science rooms, students carried out experiments; some cupcakes were rustled up in the Home Economics room; and music students gave a taste of their own talents as they continued their rehearsals for an upcoming production of ‘Beauty and the Beast’.
“All subjects were on display with teachers talking to parents and students about different aspects of their particular subject,” said TY Co-ordinator Kerry McCarthy.
“Principal Stella Loughnane, in her address explained how Killarney Community College is a very progressive school, highlighting the curricular development in Computer Coding in the new Junior Cycle, and the colleges involvement as a consultation school for the new Senior Cycle, among other areas.
“She explained to parents the high level of results achieved by our recent Leaving Certificate and Junior Cycle students,” she added.
The purpose of the night was to show parents the school’s worth, and also up for discussion was its embracing of technology, with particular emphasis on how the school’s use of the recently implemented
Microsoft 365 is key to preparing students for future learning and work.
“Overall, Monday night was a wonderful success due to the hard work and dedication of the management and staff of the college,” Ms McCarthy added.
