A dream come true as Denis will appear on the toy show

- By SINEAD KELLEHER

PERSISTENCE has paid off for 12-year-old Denis Moroney who, after years of auditions for the Late Late Toy Show, is finally getting his chance at fame on this year’s show, which airs live on November 29.

Denis is both excited and nervous as he prepares for his appearance on what is always one of the most-watched TV shows of the year.

The Killorglin boy got the news last week that he is one of the lucky participants chosen to appear on the toy show this year.

Approximately 5,500 children audition every year but only about 2 per cent get an audition, making the odds of getting selected difficult, explained Denis’s Mom, Lyn, who said the whole family is over the moon. However, Lyn, will be unable to accompany him to Dublin as she and Denis’s Dad, Mike, will be on their long-awaited honeymoon in New York.

She says they hope to tune in from the Big Apple.

Denis says he can’t wait for the show. “I’m really looking forward to it. It has been my dream my whole life. I have been auditioning for years and this year I got it,” said Denis.

“I am a mix of nervousness and excitement. I spent 20 minutes crying with joy after I found out.”

Denis does not know yet what exactly he will be doing on the show but he is hoping that he will get to sing a solo.

He is well prepared for his TV performance having appeared on RTEjr’s Donncha’s Two Talented recently.

“Judging by how fun that was how good will the Late Late be?” asked Denis.
