Congratulations to our minor men who had a great win over Milltown/Castlemaine in the Mid Kerry minor championship semi final. The game was played in tough conditions with the scoreline 1-11 to 0-14 after normal time, but Beaufort found their rhythm in Extra Time as they scored 3-3 without reply. The final score was Beaufort 4-15 Milltown/Castlemaine 0-16. The minors will now face Laune Rangers in the Mid Kerry final on Sunday 24th November

CROMANE

MINORS: Mid Kerry MFC semi-final result: Glenbeigh-Glencar/Cromane (GGC) 0-4, Laune Rangers 3-12 The GGC minors took on Laune Rangers in the Glenbeigh last Saturday in what was their first outing since August 22. This 11-week gap since their last competitive game did nothing for our lads who were well beaten on the day by their Killorglin neighbours. The victors were well in control throughout with David Mangan, Gearoid Hassett, Matthew Leslie, and Rory O’Connor impressing. The GGC team, however, was severely weakened before the game by the absence of free-scoring forwards Darragh McKeefry and Rian O’Donovan. Laune Rangers led by 3-5 to 0-2 at the break. The GGC lads upped their work rate in the second half and held onto the ball with more conviction. They also tightened up in the backline but couldn’t make any inroads in the forward line. Laune Rangers were very impressive and were well worth their 3-12 to 0-4 win. All-in-all it has been a very positive year for the GGC minors, highlighted by six wins in a row between April and August on their way to winning the Central Region Division 2 title. The vast majority of this team are also underage next year so they have plenty to look forward to. Many thanks to their mentors for the year Seanie Barton, Colin O’Sullivan, and Aidan Roche.

Scorers: Tommy Quirke, Liam Roche, Sean Tadhg Sheahan, Sean Quirke 0-1 each.

Team: Cian Knight; Eanna Healy, Jack O’Sullivan, Darragh Blennerhasset; Diarmuid McGillycuddy, Kieran O’Sullivan, Aodhan Roche; Liam Smith, Tommy Quirke; Kaiya O’Flaherty, Liam Roche, Sean Quirke; Keith Sheahan, Jason Clifford, Sean Tadhg Sheahan. Sub: Liam Joy.

DR CROKES

SENIOR COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL: Played in Austin Stack Park East Kerry 2-14 Dr Crokes 1-7 Even though we would have been happy at half time to be down just 0-8 to 0-5, having played against a strong wind we came off very much second best in the second thirty minutes. It’s hard to know if we ran out of gas, playing against a young team who fought hard for every ball in this second half. Our Congratulations to East Kerry who were very deserving winners. We are still very proud of our lads. They owe nothing to the Club as they have been great ambassadors over the last two decades. Seven wins in this decade is the most wins in any decade by any Club or Divisional team. I have no doubt but that we will be back and have more great days on the playing fields in the years ahead.

Remember we lost three County Finals in the first decade of the Century and we came back to win seven in the second decade.

Dr. Crokes have acquired a box to house our defibrillator in front of the dressing rooms sponsored by Kerry Coaches - and this will be installed very soon. So it is important that we have as many people as possible skilled up in its use.

The Score with 15 mins left was Fossa 2-08 Spa 4-05Fossa were still three points behind when William O’Brien got the equalizing goal in 24th minute. The game takes place on Saturday, November 16th at 3pm in Pete Coughlan Park, Beaufort. MINOR: Laune Rangers will contest the Mid Kerry Minor Championship Final following victory in the Semi Final against Glenbeigh/Glencar/Cromane on Saturday afternoon. Laune Rangers led by three points – Gabe Griffin (2) and Gearóid Hassett with the scores – before GGC scored their first point of the game in the 6th minute. However, Rangers’ first goal gave Rangers a cushion that they never looked like relinquishing, as Ronan O’Shea’s shot hit the net albeit having almost been stopped on the line by a defender. Shane Doona scored two excellent points before Ronan O’Shea rippled the net twice in the space of a minute to complete a first half hat-trick – both goals from short range having been set up by Calum Moriarty. GGC managed a point late in the half to see Rangers leading by twelve at the break. Half Time Score:- GGC 0-2, Laune Rangers 3-5. Rangers managed the game well in the second half, opening with two Matt Leslie pointed frees before GGC scored their third point, although Ronan O’Shea came very close to scoring a 4th goal in the opening play of the half only to see the ball stopped on the line. Shane Doona and Matt Leslie added further points to their tallies to see Laune Rangers lead by 3-9 to 0-3 with a quarter to play. Laune Rangers were able to run the bench in the final quarter, with all subs getting on the ball and impressing. Matt Leslie and Ronan O’Shea (free) added to the Laune Rangers lead before GCC pegged one back with their last point of the game. The final score of the game came from Matt Leslie with a pointed free.

Sincere thanks to our senior board sponsors Kelly’s Londis-Topshop and Larkin’s Bar, Restaurant and BandB. THANK YOU: A huge thanks to Anthony Twiss, Killorglin, who recently donated €750 to our club here in Milltown Castlemaine. Anthony took part in AIB’S The Toughest Temptation earlier in August. AIB gathered one die-hard fan from each of the semi-final teams-Mayo, Dublin, Kerry and Tyrone and offered them a ticket to the All-Ireland Final. Sounds like the dream! BUT there was a catch...they weren’t allowed watch the semi-final. The four fans were placed in a plain white box for the duration of the match. If they lasted inside the box they won €1,500. Anthony was tough enough and for resisting temptation, he won €1,500! He very kindly donated half of his winnings to Laune Rangers GAA and the other half to us here in Milltown Castlemaine. We really appreciate your generosity Anthony. Check out this link to see how it all went! https://www.her.ie/sport/ toughest-temptation-aib-challenge-gaafans-tickets-final-479218

MID KERRY MINOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP: SEMI-FINAL: Milltown/ Castlemaine 0-16 Beaufort 4-15 (After Extra-Time) Milltown/Castlemaine welcomed Beaufort on Saturday, November 9th, to the Paddy Burke Memorial Park in Milltown for the semi-final of the Mid Kerry Minor Football Championship. After defeating Keel/Listry narrowly in the Preliminary Round, Milltown/Castlemaine were looking to advance to a final meeting against either Glenbeigh/Glencar/Cromane or Laune Rangers who played on the same day. Beaufort, aided by their two Kerry Minors from the 2019 panel, Jack O’Connor and Sean O’Brien started well with Jack O’Connor notching an early point off his left leg. Milltown/Castlemaine responded accordingly however and scores from Dylan O’Neil, Cillian Burke and Cathal Barrett throughout the opening half saw the hosts lead at half-time on a score of 0-8 to 0-7. Beaufort got the ideal start to the second half with an early goal but Milltown/ Castlemaine dominated most of the proceedings -without getting the necessary scores on the board to reflect the dominance. Scores from Conor Spillane and Dylan O’Neil put the home side in the ascendancy heading down the final straight but a late equalizer from Beaufort in injury time forced the game to extra-time.

The game changed completely from here on in, as legs began to give way for the hosts in the challenging underfoot

conditions and the visitors stepped up to the mark -with a flurry of goals in the opening period ultimately deciding matters. Beaufort led 3-14 to 0-14 at half time in extra time which had the game all but sealed, Milltown/Castlemaine failing to register a score. A further goal in response to two Milltown/Castlemaine points from the away side propelled them to a flattering eleven point victory at the games end-on a score of 4-15 to 0-16-a score line which unfortunately didn’t reflect the efforts our Minors put in and the contribution they made to the contest as a whole.

EAST KERRY MINOR CHAMPIONSHIP Division 4 Final Spa 4-6 Fossa 3-10 Spa and Fossa met in Fitzgerald Stadium on Saturday afternoon and after a highly entertaining game, just a point separated the sides at the end. Oisin Walsh kicked the opening score and Fossa replied with two points from Emmett O’Shea and Killian Buckley before Connie Cremin burst forward and netted the first Spa goal. Fossa replied immediately however, Emmett O’Shea adding another point before he got a touch to a long high ball dropping in and finished it to the Spa net. Richard Wallace and Harry Kelly added more scores but Spa responded with points from Oisin Walsh (2), Cian Murphy and Ryan Kelliher to level the game at 1-5 apiece. Two Spa goals in quick succession followed, the first from Michael Horgan getting a touch to a rebound, the second came from a high ball kicked in by Ryan Kelliher from 50 yards out that lobbed the keeper and finished in the back of the net. A Fossa point from Emmett Buckley at the end of the half made it 3-5 to 1-6 at the break. Although it took some time for the opening score in the second half, it was certainly worth the wait as a long ball kicked in by Ryan Kelliher was finished to the back of the net by Roiri O’Connor. Fossa were right back in it though, as a 21-yard free from Emmett O’Shea at the other end was aimed straight towards goal and tipped the inside of the goal post to make it 4-5 to 2-6. Fossa were playing the better football at this point and scores from Emmett O’Shea (2) and Darren Cronin followed, with Spa’s Roiri O’Connor replying with a point. Wing forward William O’Brien finished the third Fossa goal, and with five minutes remaining, the sides were level at 4-6 to 3-9. Emmett O’Shea kicked the winner, and although Spa did have their chances and kept the Fossa defence under pressure in the final minutes, the equalizer did not appear and Fossa won out at 4-6 to 3-10. A great game of football, well done to both sides.
