CALL FOR WATER
To Be Made Available At All Burial Grounds In Kerry.
A call has been made for water to be provided at all Burial Grounds in Kerry. Councillor Michael Cahill raised the matter at a recent meeting of Kerry County Council, where he stated that over 50% of all Burial Grounds in the county did not have any water facility. The Fianna Fail Councillor said family members, relatives and friends visit the graves of loved ones on a regular basis, many of whom travel long distances and it is very unfair to expect these people to bring their own water.
Councillor Cahill called on the Council to provide some form of water supply, tap or trough at all Burial Grounds throughout the county, as a matter of priority. and, This is a very important issue for many families who have fresh flowers and plants at the graves of loved ones, I cannot accept any reason why Kerry County Council cannot provide water at all Burial Grounds in Kerry, and I am calling on this Council to examine rain harvesting where there is no obvious local source stated the Rossbeigh Councillor. Surely the cost of such a facility is not prohibitive said Councillor Cahill.
The Fianna Fail man who has recently been elected Chairperson of South Kerry Development Partnership said he has also requested the Partnership to examine funding options.
Reply: The Council will endeavour over time to provide a water supply to the graveyards which do not have one already subject to available resources and funding.
