MUNSTER U-16 CONFERENCE 2 Castleisland 24 Rugbaí Corca Dhuibhne 0

CASTLEISLAND U-16s got back to winning ways with an impressive three-try victory over a spirited Corca Dhuibhne at the Crageens last Saturday. The home side suffered a surprise loss to Abbeyfeale in the previous round but made no mistake this time as the overpowered the west Kerry lads with a fine performance.

The conditions were ideal for rugby and despite a nervy start the hosts were first to touch down when Alan Kerins scorched over the line, and Donal Daly made no mistake with the conversion. The early concession seems to inspire Corca Dhuibhne though, and they proceeded to dominate territory for the rest of the first half.

Despite repeated forays at the Castleisland line, the visitors failed to turn their dominance into scores, and Castleisland were grateful to take a 7-0 lead in at the half time break.

Castleisland struck once more 10 minutes into the second half when Daly slotted a penalty, and soon afterwards Alan Kerins scored his second try of the game, with Daly again adding the spares.

Corca Dhuibhne showed some admirable spirit and resilience to try and wrestle the game back, but it was Castleisland that struck once more at the death when Conor Wilkinson scored a trademark try to seal the win.

Listowel Tralee 12 Killorglin 5

LISTOWEL Tralee made much better use of their possession as they secured a good win inspite of the away side dominating large portions of the contest. Killorglin held the upper hand in the early stages of the game but despite fine displays from Ben O’Dwyer, Peadar Whelan, Donnachadh O’Connor and Adam Casey it was Tralee that struck first when Oisin Kennelly took a ball off the back of a five-metre scrum to touch down.

Listowel Tralee looked the better side for the remainder of the half and extended their lead when Mick Malecka touched down with Edward O’Connor making no mistake with the conversion to see the home side take a 12-0 lead in at the half time break.

Killorglin enjoyed the lion share of possession once more in the second half but couldn’t make their advantage count. All they had to show for their dominance was a try from the impressive Aona O’Shea midway through the half, but Listowel Tralee had done enough in the first half and held out for the win.

Killarney 12 Abbeyfeale 12

A RIP-ROARING contest in which two excellent sides couldn’t be separated. A share of the spoils was the correct result in this game as really neither side deserved to lose.

The Killarney try scorers were Dara Looney and Pierce Slattery, whilst Dara Looney slotted one of his two conversion attempts.

MUNSTER CLUB U-18 CONFERENCE 2 Killorglin 3 Killarney 13

THERE was very little between these two fine sides but in the end Killarney had too much fire power for a well drilled Killorglin team. Killarney were first off the mark with a Ciaran O’Brien penalty before Shogie O’Sullivan levelled matters for the home side in the 15th minute. Soon afterwards Killarney got into the Killorglin 22 and Matt McAuliffe capitalised on a rare defensive error to score under the posts, with O’Brien adding the conversion. Killarney weren’t finished, and O’Brien added a penalty to leave the half time score at 13-3 in Killarney’s favour. Both sides attacked at will in the second half but some excellent cover defence meant that there were no further scores and Killarney left with the points.

Newcastle West Estuary 17 Castleisland 7

Castleisland travelled to Newcastle West with high hopes of leaving with a victory but the home side were the stronger side and were deserved winners. Dean Bradley Cronin was the Castleisland try scorer with David Dillon adding the conversion.
