Amazing Grace sings for Simon Community

- By SINEAD KELLEHER

AN invitation to sing at a charity concert in aid of the homeless in Ireland inspired Killarney singer Grace Foley to go a step further and launch her own single to raise funds for this very worthy cause this Christmas.

The song was released on iTunes last Sunday and all the proceeds from downloads of the single entitled ‘Close the Door’ will be donated to the Simon Community- Grace’s chosen charity.

The title of the song was chosen before the charity though in fact ‘Close the Door’ is also the charity’s slogan.

33-year old Grace said that homelessness is even more of a crisis at Christmas-time.

“Every time you turn on the TV images of our homeless are there or on social media so I decided to write a song to highlight the issue,” she explained.

She said that she chose the Simon Community for the work they do around homelessness in Ireland.

“The charity do great work and this is a very worthy cause.

This time last year Grace Foley was preparing to launch her album ‘Unleashed’.

Almost one year on and the Killarney singer found herself looking for a way to help those without a home to go to: the homeless people of Ireland.

Grace joined forces with Dave McCune who owns the studio where Grace recorded her last album.

Dave also wrote music for well-known Irish musical ‘Copper Face Jack’s the Musical’.

Together the pair have written the very poignant ‘Close The Door’.

Everyone on the project has given freely of their time and talent.

Musicians on the track are guitarist James Nash, bass player Rod Patterson and pianist Brian Connor. Brian Connor also arranged and co-produced the track at Ventry Recording Studio Balbriggan.

The song features the stunning voice of Irish baritone Simon Morgan in a collaboration that has touched the hearts of everyone who has heard it ahead of its’ release.

The song is accompanied by a very moving video which was filmed in Tralee by the very talented up and coming videographer James Maher and features the wonderful Irish actress Laura Reidy. The video is now on social Media to coincide with the release of the single.

Grace also held a busking event in Killarney town during the run up to the release. This event featured local artists as well as the fantastic Dublin singer George Murphy to raise awareness and funds.

Grace was support act for George for his Killarney tour date at the INEC Killarney on Saturday night where Grace gave her first public performance of ‘Close The Door’ and which went down a treat with all those in attendance.

This is the first time that the well-known Killarney singer has released a single but she has two albums to her name.

She has also previously helped another charity close to her heart, Aware, but this time, given the high level of homelessness she is turning her heart and her talent to another very worthy cause.

‘Close the Door is now available on iTunes and Grace is appealing to everyone to support the homeless this Christmas by down-loading the song and all proceeds will be donated to the Simon Community.
