Call for information on early life of missing Abbeyfeale native
TWO Australian journalists are currently researching a book based on the mysterious disappearance of an Abbeyfeale man who vanished from his adopted home town in Australia in December 2017.
Patrick ‘Paddy’ Moriarty disappeared from the tiny outback Australian town of Larrimah - population of 11 people - on December 16, 2017, along with his dog, Kellie. No trace of him has ever been found since.
His disappearance garnered worldwide attention due to the nature of his disappearance.
His wallet, glasses and his cowboy hat, which he wore constantly, were all found in his home, alongside his half eaten dinner.
There was no sign of struggle inside the house.
Now, the two journalists – Caroline Graham and Kylie Stevenson – who have previously written a podcast based on his disappearance called ‘Lost in Larrimah’ are calling on anyone who might have any information about Mr Moriarty’s early life here in Ireland to get in touch with them.
“As part of our research, we’re trying to find anyone who might have known or spent time with him during his childhood and teenage years in Ireland,” they said in their appeal for information this week.
“Paddy’s background is also a bit of a mystery. We know he was born in Abbeyfeale to Mary Teresa Moriarty in March 1947, that he came to Australia in 1966 (age 19) and he had told people his life was one of poverty.”
“Since his disappearance, some relatives of his mother have come forward but no-one remembers him and there’s talk that he might have been adopted, fostered or raised in some kind of care home,” they continued.
