The concert is eagerly anticipated each year and attracts up to 600 people. The choir will be joined again by soloist, Miriam Murphy.

The Choir’s repertoire will include Christmas favourites ‘I Saw Three Ships’, Gesu Bambino, ‘Joy to the World’ and regular Christmas classics, ‘Hark the Herald Angels Sing, ‘Silent Night’ and ‘O Holy Night’. Also beautiful renditions of ‘Don Oíche Úd I mBeithil (That Night In Bethlehem)’ and The Wexford Carol. Other stirring pieces such as ‘The Hallelujah Chorus’ ‘Sleigh Ride’ and ‘Bell Carol’ will also be heard.

“For a lot of people, the singing of ‘O Holy Night’ by Miriam

Murphy marks the start of the Christmas season,” said Chairperson of The Kerry Choral Union, Willie Keane.

Miriam Murphy is from Tralee and is one of the foremost sopranos in the country. Trained at the Royal Academy of Music in London, she has performed at the Royal Albert Hall and won awards across Europe for her singing talent. The choir’s musical director is Sharon Reidy and the accompanists are pianist Ian Sexton and flautist Susan Motherway.

“This is one of Kerry Choral Union’s biggest events of the season and for a considerable number of years has been successfully held in St John’s on Castle Street. There has been a terrific response from the general public in previous years and we will be expecting a huge crowd again,” Willie added.
