Christmas in Cahersiveen: it all kicks off on Saturday, December 7

-

Christmas is more than enough reason for a town to embrace all that’s wonderful about the time of year and Cahersiveen is a step ahead in this regard.

All of the shops and services in Cahersiveen will be offering discounts or deals on Saturday, December 7, which is the annual day of Christmas cheer in town that everyone can look forward to with lots of family fun and entertainment.

It’s a day of discounts, deals and a show of appreciation to the customers who ‘shop local’ throughout the year: the supermarkets, shoe and clothing shops, chemists, hardware stores, jewellers, unique craft shops and many more are on board. It’s a day to get your Christmas shopping done locally with the bonus of some discounts included.

“It’s a way of thanking the local community for supporting the town all the year through,” said Deirdre Garvey of Cahersiveen Business & Traders Association.

“It’s also to remind everyone of what we have available here on our door step. We have a wonderful array of shops and services here in Iveragh and we encourage all our neighbours around Kerry to come and visit us in Cahersiveen over the month of December,” Deirdre added. Santy will be in the Credit Union from 11 – 2 (it’s free to visit him!); a Christmas Market in the Kerry Coast Inn; a traditional Fair Day; trading stalls; busking on the street in the afternoon; an evening parade and the switching on of the Christmas tree lights; best dressed ‘festive pet’ competition and some hot refreshments in the Community Centre afterwards. It’s a day not to be missed. Deirdre explains that the beautiful Christmas Lights in the town are made possible by the local businesses, who each make a generous contribution to the lights fund. This pays for putting up and taking down the lights, electrical costs, replacements and repairs. “It’s a true community effort and we all reap the benefits of a beautiful festive display. Remember that Cahersiveen is a town that you can do your shopping in all year round. We have unique local independent shops, with a wonderful array of goods, great customer service, and fabulous places to eat. Many shops will take deposits and will order that specific, unusual item you require,” Deirdre said.
