Handballer Lynch on Irish team to play in Australia
HANDBALLER Dominick Lynch is set to answer Ireland’s call as he prepares to represent his country at a major handball event in Australia. Lynch, a member of Glenbeigh Handball Club and current All-Ireland 60x30 Masters champion, has been selected on an elite four-man Irish team to travel to Australia in April to compete in a high profile International competition involving national teams from America, New Zealand and Australia.
The two-week event celebrates the centenary of handball as a major sport in Australia and will be based in Adelaide. Lynch, a former world championship medal winner and holder of 32 All-Ireland medals, will be joined on the Irish team by national medal winners Davin Buggy (Wexford), Sean Kerry (Tyrone) and Conor McAlduff (Tyrone). Lynch and Buggy have played together before and have won three world titles in a row when the championships were hosted in Ireland, Canada and America. Conor McAlduff is the Open One-Wall world champion.
“I was shocked and thrilled to be selected on the Irish team for this major event. It’s a massive honour for me personally, the Glenbeigh Handball Club and the Kerry Handball Board. To represent your country is the highest accolade for any sportsman and to be trusted with this responsibility places huge demands on me as a player. A lot of training and preparation will take place over the next five months as we prepare for the Australian trip,” said Dominick.
