Kerry’s St Leger winners Ardfert Redzer and Ballymac Anton to go head-to-head on Tralee track

- BY JOHN BARRY

THIS Saturday night is going to be very special at Tralee because the county’s two Leger heroes, Redzer Ardfert (English Leger) and Ballymac Anton (Irish Leger), are going to meet in a match over 570yds that will carry a purse of €3,000, with €1,000 provided by the Redzer Ardfert team, €1,000 provided by Liam Dowling, owner/ trainer of Ballymac Anton, and €1,000 provided by Bord na gCon.

In a very nice gesture, it has been agreed that €500 of the €3,000 will be given to Banna Sea Rescue and €500 to Ballyheigue Inshore Rescue.

“I am all for this; it’s just fantastic to have the two Leger winners coming out of Kerry, something that may never happen again, and it should be a really great match over the 570yds trip between two marvellous greyhounds,” said Brendan Maunsell, trainer of Redzer Ardfert.

Liam Dowling was equally enthusiastic. “It’s a great idea and I’m all for it,” he said. “It’s very nice, too, to see €1,000 going to Banna and Ballyheigue Rescues.”

A huge crowd is sure to be watching the Redzer Ardfert – Ballymac Anton head-to-head because it is the latest of the regional nights involving Ardfert, Kilmoyley and Ballyheigue, and these great greyhound strongholds always rally to a call for support.

Presentations will be made on the night to the connections of both Redzer Ardfert and Ballymac Anton and those watching can count themselves privileged to be able to see history-making achievements being honoured in such a fashion.
